Your first appointment will likely be either a Comprehensive Exam and Treatment Planning or an Emergency, Problem Focused Appointment. By reading this page, you will be informed about what to expect.
Comprehensive Exam and Treatment Planning:
Gather diagnostic information – Dr. Childress wants you to have the best oral health. He also wants to discover what is most important for you to accomplish with your dental treatment. After taking digital radiographs, you will have a thorough exam by Dr. Childress of all of your teeth and soft tissues, as well as a periodontal evaluation.
Interpretation of the diagnostic information – Dr. Childress will use the diagnostic information to determine the best course of treatment to restore your teeth, gums, bone, and other oral mucosa to the healthiest state possible. He will inform you of what is needed to achieve the best treatment possible and any other options available.
Treatment Planning – Using Dr. Childress’s advice and the knowledge of what you want to accomplish with your oral health, you and Dr. Childress will decide on a plan to get your oral health from its current state to the healthiest, most functional, and most esthetic state possible.
Emergency, Problem Focused Appointment
Gather diagnostic information – This will include an exam focused on your primary complaint and usually one or two digital periapical (PA) radiographs, and occasionally other radiographs as determined necessary by Dr. Childress. Occasionally, the emergency is due to a periodontally involved tooth or teeth. When this is the case, a limited version of the periodontal evaluation will be performed.
Interpreting the diagnostic information – Dr. Childress will use the diagnostic information to determine the best course of treatment to fix the problem that prompted your visit to the office for the emergency appointment.
Treatment planning – Once all the information has been taken in, Dr. Childress will inform you of all the available options to remedy your primary problem. He will tell you the pros and cons of each option, recommend the best long term option, and then plan for the procedure that you have decided is the best fit for you.
Dr. Childress will do everything he can to get the problem fixed at that appointment. He respects your time and wants to spare you the inconvenience of making multiple trips to his office if at all possible. Although, on occasion, there may be the need to reappoint you to make sure he has adequate time to correct the issue.
