Interesting article popped up on WebMD about artificial sweeteners. It reports on a very small study, but it is some more evidence we need to keep trying to eat foods with less man made ingredients.
NRDS provides much needed dental screenings for local second grade students. This effort is coordinated by Dr. Eckley’s office on a yearly basis. This is an incredibly effective way for our dental community to reach out to many children who may not get the chance to see a dentist. The main purpose is to ensure that the parents of any children who need dental care are aware of the issue. These dental needs can be cavities, dental abscesses, or poor home care. The parents are also supplied a list of the names and phone numbers of the dentists in the surrounding area.
These screenings are held at the Eleanor Hurt Memorial Medical Center on Harper Road during the fall of each year. The local schools bus the second graders to the Medical Center. The Medical Center has two rooms set up for dental screenings, included an dental chair, light, and assistants cart. Volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants and auxiliary staff complete dental screenings and also provide oral health education.
